Bump in the Road for Big Chicks

In other action Friday, a measure to save an Uptown gay and lesbian bar failed in the House. Larry McKeon (D-Chicago) called it a "bump in the road." A parliamentary maneuver will give the bill another chance.

Big Chicks wants to expand but was found in violation of state liquor laws after 20 years because its back wall is less than 100 feet from a synagogue. The bar at 5024 N. Sheridan Rd. wanted to open an adjoining restaurant. In reviewing those plans, the city discovered the liquor code violation.
