Flush with cash, Kerasotes theater chain looks to double its Chicago-area screens
By Alby Gallun

Backed by $75 million in private equity funding and $300 million in bank loans, the Kerasotes theater chain aims to add 174 screens by 2007. Kerasotes ShowPlace Theatres LLC is currently the ninth-largest movie theater chain in the country.

Mr. Kerasotes sees opportunities in fast-growing suburbs like Aurora and underserved city neighborhoods like Uptown, where his company plans to open its first city location: a 12-screen theater in a proposed mixed-use development on Chicago Transit Authority's Wilson Yards site.
