Man shot multiple times near Lawrence 'L' stop

A man was shot near the entrance to the Lawrence Avenue elevated train station on the Red Line early Tuesday, closing the busy facility for three hours.

Ronald West, of the 2400 block of East 74th Place, was shot multiple times by two men at 5:10 a.m., said Police Sgt. Robert Cargie. Police caught the suspects after chasing them down an alley, said Cargie, adding that charges were pending.

West was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. The Lawrence station was closed to passengers until 8 a.m while police processed the scene, said CTA spokeswoman Kimberly Myles.
